Kadala Paruppu Sundal(Channa Dal)
It's first day of "Navaratri"(Divine Nine Nights)where people perform pooja and offer auspicious food to god. Few keep Gollu(decorate 9 steps with dolls and god stuff)teaching every step about life its very interesting.I have seen few my friends doing this gollu in Chennai and I just love it. Since we don't do this at my house I thought I will make some offering to god for 9 days dressing my girl nicely in traditional dress considering her as goddess Durga(Thanks to my sister Yogi who told me to do this)Today for the beginning of 1st day I offered this kadala paruppu sundal to god and we celebrated it happily.

Ingredients
- Channa dal/kadala paruppu - 1 cup
- Coconut,grated - 1/4 cup or less
- For Seasoning:
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Urad dal(ulandham paruppu) - 2 tsp
- Dry Red Chillies - 4
- Asofaetida(hing) - a pinch
- Curry leaves - as per requirement
- Salt to taste - as per taste
- Green chillies - 2
Instructions
1.Boil Channa dal/kadala paruppu in cooker for 2 whistle(3 -4 mins)it shouldn't get cooked too much(for 1 cup I used 1 1/2 cup water). It should be little dry.Remove the excess water out and collect the Channa dal alone.
2.Do the seasoning and add the Channa dal and fry for a min till all the wetness is gone.Then grate coconut in a blender and mix it well.
3.Sundal is ready to serve.Simple and can be made in 5-10 mins.
