Vinayaka Chadhurthi is a very special festival that is celebrated not only in south India but all over India.Everyone enjoys this festival by making special offerings like Sweet and Kara Kozhukattai, Sundal and Payasam.I have tried my best to contribute to this auspicious day.I try to make simple and quick kozhukattai every year.Traditionally its made by soaking the rice but now for the last few years I have changed to simple version.Its easy this way with a 4 yr old kid.

We all know what to make but the important stuff is how to make it real quick without any fuzz or stress in the kitchen.I always try to go the long way when it comes to festival sweets, but when it comes to kozhukattai I take the short route because with 4 yr old kid its very stressful to stand in kitchen for more than 2 hrs.So here is the simple way of doing your kozhukattai, no soaking no grinding no checking for right consistency,just finish making it in 10 mins.The taste wont be compromised they taste equally good like the soaked rice.Check for other offering made for vinayagar like Kara Kozhukattai,Sundal(chick peas) and Pasi Parupu Payasam.

1.In a pan boil the water for 5 mins let it bubble well then pour the water to the rice flour(I use Idiyappam flour)Add salt and some oil and mix it well and make a soft dough.Close it with some cloth and cover it well otherwise it will become dry.

2.Now in a pan add some water and dilute the jaggery, filter it in a strainer if there is any mud.The ones that I get here doesn't have any mud in them but always filter it to be on a safer side.Then once the jaggery is diluted keep it separate.
3.Now fry the grated coconut with 2 tsp of ghee till they turn mild brown in colour then add the jaggery water and stir till they thicken.Then add powdered elachi powder(cardamom)and mix it well.Once they get a rolling consistency remove from fire and let it cool.Then after 2 min make a soft round balls and stuff them inside the dough.

4.Now take the rice flour dough and make a small balls out of them then press in center and make a thin layer and stuff the jaggery balls inside and close it and give a twist in center.Shape them according to your choice.Then steam them for 5- 10 mins,check after 5 mins you will see the dough shiny on top and well cooked then remove from fire.Then offer the sweet to god.
