Masala Vadai
This masala vadai has been in my post draft for a very long time. I made these when my friends had come. Hubby loves it and I was thinking of making vada curry while making this but all the vadas were gone before I could save any for my next day vada curry. Its very simple to make and everyone will love the crispy vadas. Its very famous in south India ,its one of the most fast selling snack you can say. Its available from road side to good restaurants. I remember a particular shop in Adyar where they make masala vada and tea alone and I am sure the guy much be easily owning a high end house and a good car. The business was that good for him, the vadas were very tasty too. Well now off to south Indian fav snack masala vada recipe....
- Prep Time : 1 hr for soaking minutes
- Cook Time : 10 minutes
- Yield : 15 vadas
Ingredients
- Channa Dal/ Kadala Paruppu - 1 cup
- Dry Red Chillies - 8
- Fennel seeds/ Sombhu - 1 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves - as per taste
- Ginger,finely chopped - 3 tsp
- Onion,finely chopped - 1
- Salt to taste
- HIng - a pinch
Instructions
1. Soak channa dal/ kadala paruppu in a bowl for 1 hr. Then wash it well and strain the water. Then in a blender blend channa dal and dry red chillies and blend 80% not completely smashed or half just 80% so that while biting the vada, you can get the channa dal in your mouth and it will be crispy and tasty.
2. Now add the ingredients mentioned above and mix it well. No need of water. The Channa dal itself leaves little water and it will bind well(Add little bit water if its not binding). Now make a small ball out of this and press little in center to form the vada shape, like shown in pic. Then deep fry them in a separate hot oil.
3. Now turn it on both sides till the vada looks mild brown in color. Then collect it in a tissue paper and let it absorb the oil. Hot hot vadas are ready. Serve it for your evening snack with a cup of hot tea or coffee. Easy isn't?????
