Lemon Idiyappam / Lemon Sevai
Idiyappam/ String Hoppers is our family fav dish. In southern part of India, especially in Kerala and Tamil Nadu this is considered as main course dish for breakfast or dinner . To people who don't know what it is click here to get detailed description. Its nothing but rice flour,salt & water steamed well using a string hopper instrument. Its very tasty and can be paired with multiple choice of dish dish. Its goes well with coconut milk, with Sodhi/ Coconut Milk Curry, Sambar, Vegetable khurma and many more. The remaining Idiyappam is broken to pieces and many other variety can also be done. Its called Sevai. I have many Idiyappam sevai in my blog do check it out. Ingredients
- Idiyappam(Homemade) - 2 cup
- Lemon - 1 1/2(juice from 1 1/2 lemon)
- Green Chillies,long slit - 5-6
- Coriander Leaves,freshly chopped - 2-3 tsp
- Salt to taste
- For Tempering:
- Oil,Seasame - 3 tsp
- Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Urad Dal - 1 tsp
- Channa Dal - 1 tsp
- Jeera - 1 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves - as per requirement
- Asofaetida(Hing) - a pinch
Instructions
1. To make Idiyappam click here for recipe. Now keep the Idiyappam open so its not hot and will be easy to break to pieces. Using your finger just break them little bit( like noodles)Usually this kind of sevai is done with the left over Idiyappam. I always make 2 batch extra so that fresh one is used for dinner and the left over for breakfast.
2. In a pan add oil and do the seasoning mentioned, then add green chillies. Saute for some time. Then keep the flame low and squeeze the lemon juice. To this add turmeric powder and salt and leave it for few sec and the minute you see it bubbling switch it off. Then sprinkle fresh coriander leaves and mix it well.
3. To this add broken Idiyappam and mix it well. Serve it hot. Yummy tasty Idiyappam is ready to serve...So simple right???
