Kollu Rasam / HorseGram Rasam
This is one of the healthiest rasam and tasty really good and different at the same time. I have a good news for weight watchers out there drinking kollu/horsegram boiled water reduces fat in our body and it helps you in losing weight and controls cholesterol in our body. This time mom is here in NY with me for 2 months and she made this yesterday it was really very good. From now on I am going to develop this habit of making this healthy rasam at least once in a week. Now off to the recipes its very simple to make.
- Prep Time : 10 minutes
- Cook Time : 20 minutes
- Yield : 3 people

- Garlic - 3-4
- Dry red chillies - 4
- Pepper - 1 tsp
- Small onion - 3
- Jeera - 1 tsp
- Kothamalli/Coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
- Tamarind juice/paste(small gooseberry size) - 1/4 cup
- Tomato,finely chopped - 1
- Turmeric powder - a pinch
- Salt - 1- 1/2 tsp
- For seasoning:
- Oil/Ghee - 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves - as per requirement
- Asofaetida(hing) - a pinch

Instructions
1. Dry roast kollu/horsegram for few mins till a good aroma comes out. Let it cool and Pressure cook it with 3 cups of water for 6-7 whistles. Now remove the kollu/horsegram separate and use it for vada or chutney(will load it soon)keep the boiled water safe in a separate bowl.
2. In a blender coarsely grind small onion, ginger, garlic, pepper, jeera and dry red chillies. Just before taking it out add coriander leaves and give a quick beat in pulse mode.
3. Take a pan do the seasoning mentioned above, to this add the blended things and saute them for a min. To this add tamarind paste/water,tomato pieces and let it boil for few mins. Add salt.
4. To this add the boiled kollu/horsegram water and let it cook for 2-3 mins or till they bubble up.
5. Serve it with hot white rice and I made carrot fry to this potato fry and brinjal fry will go very well with this.
Notes:
1. I would definitely recommend to dry roast the horse gram because it gives an excellent flavor to the rasam.
2. You can increase the tomato flavor and reduce tamarind paste too.
3. It very healthy and taste really good with white rice. If you like you can add little dhal water too.
