Stuffed Masala Buns

By November 20, 2012

I have always been eying this particular stuffed buns from Aipi for quite a long time and was finally able to do it. They taste so good when its hot and fresh straight away from oven. My whole family enjoyed it a lot. I did have few accidents with it here and there but finally made it perfect. Soft and fluffy buns were just awesome for my evening tea time.

We can easily make this for our guest too they will def love it. When they bite the buns the surprise masala is sure to amaze them. They will start digging to it and they will def ask for recipe trust me and whats better than a homemade fresh buns so have fun and happy baking.

  • Prep Time : 15 minutes
  • Cook Time : 2 hrs 30 minutes
  • Yield : 4 person

Ingredients

Instructions

1. First in a warm milk or water add 1 tsp of active dry yeast and stir it will for some time till they dissolve then add 1 tsp of sugar and stir it again and leave it for 10 mins. You will notice a slight rise in yeast after 10 min.

2. Now sieve the dry ingredients like baking powder, baking soda, salt and all purpose flour together. To this in center add the yeast and mix it well. Add little water if required and knead it well for 5-10 mins let it fold together.

3. Now close the dough with cling wrap or with wet cloth for 1 1/2 hr or till they get raised double the size.

4. Now while the rising takes place start making the masala stuffing for this buns.

5. In a pan/kadai add oil then season it with jeera then add onion, finely chopped green chillies and saute them well. To this add ginger garlic paste then add finely chopped vegetables and stir them for few mins. Then add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt and mix it well till the raw smell is gone then garnish with coriander leaves and let it cool for 10 mins.

6. Now take a small piece from dough and make a round ball shape and keep it on a aluminum covered tray(don't forget to spray oil on top of aluminum foil first, this helps the dough not to stick to the foil)Now spray or brush the dough with some oil.

7. Now when the masala is completely cooled off, make a small ball out of it and stuff it inside the dough. Make the dough flat in center and keep the stuffing inside and cover it on all sides. Then make a perfect shaped ball and place it back on the foil. Brush it with little milk to get golden brown color after they get baked if you want you can sprinkle some sesame seeds on top but its optional and cover it with cling plastic wrap.

8 Now let it sit there closed for 30 more mins a slight rise will be noticed. Now preheat the oven to 400 deg F. Then remove the cling wrap and place the doughs inside the oven and let it bake for 15-20 mins. When the buns turn golden brown take it out. Then apply some butter on top of the buns and serve it hot hot with sauce or just plain.

Tips:

  • First using a proper active dry yeast is very important check for the expiry date and use it. See that the yeast is raised well in 10-15 mins.
  • Never make the buns if the dough hasn't raised double the size, give more time to rise.
  • Always sieve the dry ingredients and cover it properly with cling plastic wrap to avoid dryness in dough.
  • Baking takes time so have patience and enjoy the work.
