Mochai Kulambu/Limo beans curry

By August 3, 2012

Mochai/Limo beans is available for me in NY at all seasons.I dont have to soak them over night. They come in frozen packet. They are so soft and it just gets cooked in 5 mins. Its very healthy and I use them in many curries. This dish is my all time favourite.I like the way it gets combined with avarakai/broad beans.I dont get it frequently here,so I didn't add it today. But I usually do.I love the combination of both.So if you can grab some avarakai form near by shop do pick them and try adding them to this gravy. It will be super delicious.

Ingredients

Instructions

motchai,limo beans
1.Soak mochai/limo beans in water for 10 mins.I usually get only frozen beans here but they are very soft and tender.

2.In a kadai/pan do the seasoning mentioned above in a order and then saute the onion till they become soft.

3.Now crush some garlic,I dont like to cut in to pieces. When the garlic is crushed it brings a nice flavour,so just place knife on top of the garlic and crush it.Saute them for sometime. Now add tomatoes and cook for 5 more mins till they get completely mushy.Add some hing.

4.Now add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, fennel powder & salt.Add 1/2 glass of water and let it cook till the masala smell is gone.

5.Now add the mochai and let it get cooked. The oil will start to ooze in the center, then remove from fire.Serve it hot with white rice and Brinjal fry.

VARIATION:
1.Add avarakai/broad beans to this mochai kulambhu it will taste more good.I didn't have them so I didn't add it.Usually I add it.
2.Few like to add brinjal too,so feel free to add it.Choosing additional vegetable is our own choice.Drumstick can be added too.But remember to keep mochai as our main vegetable.
3.If you notice I haven't added tamarind/pulli because this kulambhu taste so good with tomatoes. If you want you can substitute little tamarind paste by minimizing 1 tomato.
